So there’s some weird stuff going on with the comic portion of the site. I have no idea what’s happening. It’ll be resolved soon, I hope.
Anybody watching Fringe? It’s like the mythology of all six seasons of Lost compacted into two episodes and put on steroids. I love Lost, but I’m really not feeling Fring yet.. And that genious’ son who is also a genious is way too snarky. Aaron Sorkin’s not in the credits, but I have a feeling they’re paying him under the table to write all of that character’s lines
EDIT: Okay. Comic issues resolved, Fringe issues still pending review.
EDIT EDIT: Uhm.. It’s not working again. Looking into it.
EDIT EDIT EDIT: It’s alive!
I hate most commercials, but lately, candy commercials have become so consistently unbearable that I’ve set aside time to write about them.
Despite appearances, my life’s actually goin okay.
The current trend for Snickers, Starburst, Skittles, etc. advertisers is to hire the most intentionally ugly people who have head shots and film a 30-second Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre) movie that so cleverly raises more questions than it cares to answer. The intended effect is to cause trendy off-beat-comedy connoisseurs across country to delightedly do spit takes and turn to one another and go “Pfff! Whaaaat? How is that even a commercial?“ These commercials are designed to make those trendy, trendy, trendsetting teenagers feel like they’re getting away with something. Like, somehow, all the bullshit is off the table and it’s just you an’ Dwight Skittleman shootin’ the shit and sayin’ what you mean.
Watch this:
Objectively, what is your reaction to that video? It should be: “This is the stupidest fucking thing I’ve ever seen.” As it happens, that video is a tribute to a Skittles commercial. The fact that people feel compelled to pay homage to commercials is disquieting on such a profound level… It means that these girls connected with a commercial personally enough to actually film themselves acting it out. And then, after they had had the chance to cool down, they still felt compelled enough to upload it.
Moving on… Wouldn’t you have to assume that the commercial referenced in the video above is at least a little bit better than that? If the bar is that low, how could it not? Well…
Fuck me. Right? Well, they’re all that bad, and they all use the same off-beat, low-saturation, low-rent, pseudo-eighties aesthetic in a bizarre attempt to somehow borrow comedic credibility. From whom, I don’t know. Watch and cringe:
Pffft! WHAT?
Pffft! WHAT?
Pffft! WHAT?
So I’ve decided to add new comics twice a week. Mondays and Fridays are new comic days. Wahoo.
As I get faster, I’ll probably make it three per week. Mon, Wed, Fri. XKCD ain’t got nothin’ on this!
My animations (the two passable ones, anyway) are up on Youtube after only two-and-a-half years of delay:
The good one:
The one that hangs out with the good one sometimes:
