These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things
Two of the greatest intellectual properties ever are getting very modern, big budget, big-screen adaptations this spring. Until lately, I’ve been optimistic for both of them, but as their releases draw nearer, my glass-half-empty thoughts are kicking in.
The internet is already flooded with reasons why and why not Star Trek and Watchmen will suck, so I don’t want to rehash what you already know. Suffice it to say that Star Trek is being rebooted by a guy who makes a point of telling interviewers that he never really “got” Star Trek, and that Watchmen is being adapted by a guy who, although he’s admittedly a fanboy, doesn’t exactly have a body of work that screams “nuance” or “dialogue” or “my IQ exceeds 70″. Zack Snyder doesn’t know how to shoot for anything bigger than “Woah!” in a movie.
Still, I love these IPs, and the trailers for both movies get me really fucking pumped… So I hope to God I’m wrong.
(Did the Fox lawsuit officially delay Watchmen yet? Is this comic already dated?)

I actually think that Watchmen is officially delayed right now. I’m holding out hope, though, as it is one of my absolute favorite stories. The movie is supposed to be as accurate to the source material as possible without actually BEING a comic book, so I’m extra excited about that.

I was excited for watchmen until about a week ago. I downloaded the watchmen app on my iphone, and the trailers are cool. But, after reading through the character and plot synopses my doubt began to grow. and then i got the brilliant idea that i needed to read to the book again before watching the movie… halfway through for the i don’t know how manyeth time and i’ve decided: how it can ever be good as ‘not a comic book’ i dunno.
plus i saw spirit in the theatre last weekend and want my money back, so yeah.

Yeah, I agree. It may look like the book frame-for-frame, but I’m worried that it’s just going to be all flash.
